| So my rebuilt engine locked up on me, and I must say that I've had it with this car...
its a 1983 Toyota Corolla Wagon
I am considering renting a garage and parting it out, and since almost all of the mechanical components are less than a month or two old, and i have somewhat hard to find parts on the car (supra p-types), i figured I'd get more out of it than one would be selling it whole.
so these are the new parts
alternator radiator weber 32/36 master cylinder brake cylinder voltage regulator
the rear seats, and the lining is mint, as is the window rubbers, most of the glass is supreme, most of the body is salvagable, the bumpers are fantastic too. It also has some stupid stuff i could get rid of like an electric fan, a nice stereo and magnaflow muffler...
so would I make more from it parted out or selling it as a whole package without an engine? I would love your professional opinions.
located in chicago
thanks guys, Lucio | |

| Usually parting out a broke car makes more money than selling outright, but it is more work on you. PLUS you said you'd need to rent a garage and that's more money there. If the rest of the car is in real good shape (interior and exterior) I would try to keep it all together. | |

| Old Skool Yota's of any kind in the midwest are awfully expensive, the same way they are in the east coast. And since I found out about the engine, unless I get an engine upgrade, I can't see my self selling it for the same amount that I've invested to it.
I bought it for 2500 and invested close to 4 grand. I posted it on CL for 5 o/b/o before I found out about the engine, and will eventually consider posting on here among other places for someone to buy her and take care of her once I get my stuff in order and figure out what exactly I'm going to do.
The car was in perfect working order before it locked up on me. I took care of all the problems...so it runs like a champ!
Thanks for your help Eric. | |

| Well It sounds like I might be keeping it, however, I might be ripping the gauge cluster out if I can find a 4ag to throw in it. Soooo...I might p.m. you if I can find a 4ag that is reasonable. (I don't want anything else, i need to make sure it bolts right in) | |

| they seem pretty hard to find. many of the chicagoan old skool toyota enthusiasts don't use the internet. So i just have to be a creeper in one particular neighborhood where Toyota's are fruitful. But still haven't had any luck. The car is still stuck at the shop, i need to find a way to tow it to my buddies garage to leave it there until i can find an engine. The stock 5speed will work with the 4ag right? I don't plan on making much power out of a 4ag, if anything I'd throw some side drafts in there and learn how to tune them. | |
