| Day after day I keep asking myself "Why even bother with this dam engine?" My engine has over 200k on it. it smokes, makes all sorts of noise, and doesn't make my car drive around. I have 2 4ACs in my garage that I can swap out, but I don't know their condition either. All I can do is a compression and leak down test. For the amount of money it will take to rebuild the engine, I could finish putting my BT 20v together. All it needs is a gasket set, bearings, and rings. Everything else is done. Either that or go to the junkyard, buy a 1UZ, and put that in the car. But for some dam reason, I don't know what it is, I still keep and buy parts for the dam 4AC. CURSE YOU 4AC ENGINE!!!!! ...I'm addicted to the sohc... | |

hah. then why are you on here? Well, it's not because these engines are to be comparable to a 2JZGTE...lol I'm here for many reasons. Most the same as why others are here. Why did you join? -I love being different. -The engines are a dime a dozen. -To "prove" something to the dohc guys, even though I have a 20v... -To surprise people. -To trek into new territory. Think back in 2005 a 7AC was a thought in more than 8 people's minds? -To be a part of a small, diverse, global community. -To be a part of a movement. Yeah, if I had a choice of a 4AGE or 4AC, both fresh from Toyota, I'd choose the 4AGE. Because I wasn't even a twinkle in my dads eye when they were new n the market, at lease the RWD version. But I will gladly take a 4AC today. A friend and myself are making a name for ourselves here in Vegas. there is a large and very active car enthusiast community here. Small example, we have out own ProAM for Formula Drift this year. I've "converted" a few people to buy a Weber and cam instead of doing a "GTS" swap in their AE86s. So don't get me wrong. As I said, it's a love hate thing. I'm sure you all understand that.

| I'm and old guy here. But back in 1986 I had a '83 Corolla Hardtop SR5 with a 4AC motor and the ae86 suspension. This was the last year they made the "square" ones and were transitioning to the AE86. To me it was worth the effort, yeah I could of dropped in a 3TC or I would of loved a 4AGE but mine came with a 4AC. I rebuilt the engine .020 over, new rings/piston, reground my cam (Crower) threw on a pair of Mikuni 40's then later a pair of SK 40's (OER), Paeco header, free-flow exhaust, adjust the valves, played with the timing, Centerforce clutch, ITG foam filters and to me this was something worth doing. It was being different. Plus the motor had lots of tourque. BTW, I do have the intake manifold for sidedrafts listed in the classifieds. | |

| I have no idea why I like the 4AC. I could swap in a 4AGE a 5speed trans from a junkyard here for under $400, but I can’t bring myself to get ride of the 4AC. I guess it’s because of the uniqueness, and for the retro appeal.
I actually have to be careful not spend too much funds on it until my Escort is finished, like the sexy sidedraft manifold that rustycorolla just posted for sale, lol.
