| Subject: Chassis codes for older Corolla hatch. Tue Jun 22, 2010 12:22 pm | |
| Just wondering if anybody knew the chassis codes for RWD Corollas older than the AE86. I know there are other models such as TE and other AE's, but I am not sure the differences. To be specific, I am trying to figure out the chassis code for the 80-83 hatch backs. I like the body style and am looking into getting one. I know some of them also have a 4ac (which I prefer) and I want to make sure that I am looking for the right thing. I am looking for something like the one in the below picture: Any help in figuring this out would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. | |

| That would be a TE71 sports coupe. Ive heard these refered to as "Levin" and "trueno". I just call em "neat" There is also a TE71/T18 with the goofy roofline that no one but me seems to like. We call em "Corolla liftbacks" Everyone else calls them "Sprinter". Out of all the TE's, the 18's are the most under appreciated. USA market TE51~5 liftback ("sprinter") TE37 Sports Coupe: By the way AE71's were only offered one year in the USA 1983. Same car as previous TE71, but with 4AC engine. In Toyota-ese, model code = (T) engine series, (E) Type, (7) series (1) style. So a TE38 would be: 2/3T engine, passenger car, Series 3, station wagon. An AE72 = 4AC engine, passenger car, series 7, sedan. There are TE's, KE's RA's, TA's, RT's, ST's, RN's, etc etc etc..... | |
