gozaimasu! I'm a newbie trying to fix an ae86 sr5 4AC, can i replace the rusted muffler with any muffler from any old car from the junk shop? Will it be considered stock & legal here in L.A.?

yes...
look for a muffler with 2 1/4 piping...
as long as its not louder than 92db's you'll be fine...
