I got the pic from Lawnie420's build thread. What is this part (arrow A) and what does it do? My car didn't come with it. It seems to be attached to the block with this triangle shaped bracket (arrow B) which I removed from my car because it held nothing but a ground wire which I relocated.
I kept the bracket just in case though!

California cars do not have that part, it's a Federal spec emissions part (49 state). It's an air filter / inlet for the air suction system for the catalytic converter if memory serves.

Yes, it is. The canister must have a one-way valve or something.. I installed a regular cat after I removed mine and it had that pipe, but no canister- it would blow exhaust out of it. The snorkel tube from the canister goes up behind the fan mounted to a bolt for the upper timing cover, allowing it to take in cool fresh air to aid the catalytic converter.

Ahhhh, ok, then I know what that tube coming from the cat is supposed to be connecthed to. Theres a small metal looking tube kinda floating in space down in there under the distributor.
Car runs fine without it so I'll probably ditch all that when I get new exhaust piping.
Florida has no emissions testing, yahoo!

I got that thing removed and stored it in a box. Mine has no Cat converter and 2" piping so it was useless just hangin' there in mid air.

I'm guessing the smaller piping coming off the cat is where this hooks up? Thats what I have on my car but its not attached to anything so...

Yeah you can totally remove it. Just make sure you use something to plug the hole leftover. I used Liquid Steel - and I even passed state emissions test that includes a visual inspection!
