Need help in AE82 sedan

I'm really leaning on buying an '84 AE82 sedan, imported, with 4A-LC engine.
However, this car was not locally released in our country (Asia), hence I don't see one anymore and parts hunting would be a killer.
I reckon there should be common parts with other rolla's. There are plenty of parts here for AE92, AE101,AE11, used or b.new

Saw the engine and is leaking oil everywhere.

1. If I buy this car, should I retain and rebuild the 4A-LC or opt to replace it with a 4age/4afe instead? Price/cost to rebuild is half that of the engine change. This would not be my daily, only a weekend car, no track days.

2. Considering it's already "extinct" here, do you suggest I look for other cars? I really like this car and I guess I would be the only one driving it, which for me, is a good thing

Welcome to our community! Having a unique car like that is a blessing and a curse. It is cool having something unique sure, you'll never see another. But that means finding parts will be harder like you said. That being said, the internet has made the world smaller. You can order parts from Toyota dealerships around the world that can ship the parts to you. If the car is in fine shape, I say go for it!

where can you find the actual engine # (when facing the engine bay)?

Its on the little flat part of the block under the distributer.
