I'll assume that you meant me, I dunno, the guy I bought it off of said that the knock started as the couple that owned it was driving through the state, and they just abandoned it with the towing company, who felt that since it was such an old car that it wasn't worth it to see if it could be fixed so they were taking it to be crushed.

Now I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with it so I can fix it, I'm hoping it was just someone making the problem a mountain out of a molehill, and not the other way around.

Yeah, some ppl are like that. One man's trash is another man's treasure. LOL... Mine had a knock sound also and I was very disappointed since I tho it was rod knock or something, but resulted to be a noise coming from the trans bell housing. I think it was the pressure plate or something. You should check out exactly where its coming from with a stethoscope. Could be something really easy to fix

Haha, cheers guys. I guess I can thank Toyota for those two things on the car because they're both still the factory original colour and panelvan body. I guess you guys never got the panelvans at all? It's a KE70 panelvan, I've put in the hydraulic pedal assembly and 4A crossmember and drove it with the 4A-C for nearly 12 months. Pulling out the 4A-C soon as I have a 100kw smallport 4A-GE to go in. I bought the white sedan to get around in while I do this all.

We wish we got your 2 door sedans. Did you get a 2 door wagon? You could get some blank out panels sent over from aus if you got the 2 door wagon.

Was just excited and and wanted to share it with someone.

I know how you feel about it being christmas eve i was looking for 3 years till i finally found my 86 when i did get it i couldnt stay away from It i had to get started right away getting it all cleaned up (paint that is) interior needed no cleaning at all plus the people i bought it from delivered it to my job with a full tank of gas and complete lube oil and fllter change and complete detail inside with all original paperwork and brochure with window sticker when bought new in 84 i was surprized with that lil present for it

i will still keep them im not giving them up even if i lose the car (wreck impound or what ever else may happen) in fact i still have the key to my old 86 i have it hanging from the rearview mirror in my current 86 just for memories and to remind me of the stupid thing i did to lose that one i miss that ride alot first car learned how to drive a manual and learned to drive period plus i was learning to drive in snow (wyoming gets hell of a lot of snow) when i had my old 86 my dad had bought it for me hell i had that one for about 3 years

well idle is rough, at about 500 rpm, although i just tell myself its a big ass cam. ac works, most of the lights work. for a point a to point b car its well worth what i paid for it. my goal is to lower it, rebuild the motor and trans, and make the interior civilized. then just drive it and enjoy it. nothing extreme, yet Smile

Helloa all, I'm new to this forum, but not new to toyotas, I had a 4age rolla before but that didn't turn out so well, nd now I have a 86 rolla sr5,
I'm planning to either rebuild the tranny, engine and carb or replace with some better after marrket parts, mostly on the engine though, maybe even copy the guy on here with the 8k revving 4ac
But hopefully stay smoggable,

Hello everybody! first let me thank the ones among you who take time out of your busy lives to keep up this awesome forum running, I found an 86 SR5 hatch on CL while deployed to afghanistan one owner never wrecked or altered is mint and I love it! I used to own an 82 sport coupe TE72 I build it back in 2000 and raced it on the 8Mile I also owned a 1977 2 door KE30 that I fixed very nicely. I had to deploy in 03 and made a huge mistake by selling my cars. I learned to drive in san juan (PR) on a red SR5 hatch just like the one I own now, I plan on making this car my daily driver just because I love the way this cars ride.
im looking forward to modify my car(without touching the interiors) using all the combined knowledge from this forum.
