so i was thinking...

Im trying to get my rolla from so. cal to colorado i dont have much time due to im in the military... im thinking if i rent a uhaul (etc.) if i put my car inside will it work and what are some ways to get it in and out if it dose?

Why not get a u-haul car trailer? We were transporting a car in a step van which is pretty similar to box van fron u-haul, it was a bit of work to get it to working and safe. You need long ramps for a reasonable approach angle, and you need to make sure that they don't fall / slide off the floor in the box when you are driving the car in. I doubt what ever hold downs come in a moving van (if any), will hold up to a car in a serious accident, the car could come through the back of the cab and crush you. I doubt that the box and cab back are very strong. My old man reinforced the hell out of the floor hold downs and I still think that we would have been toast in a bad accident.

Also most of those box vans have wheel boxes in the floor, we had to weld a curved section in instead so that the car could be driven over them.

I don't think Uhaul allows it but people do it. Some have found some type of loading dock and just driven the car in. I don't know how they secure them. Google it and you'll find stories of people who have done it. Good luck.

I dont have a truck and uhaul dosnt rent there pickups for towing or long distance hauls ill look more thought id check here to see if anyone has done it

You could get the smallest box van they do and put the trailer behind that. I have seen people moving doing that . It's a little more money I imagine. You can probably figure out a way around most or all of the issues to putting a car in the box, and it's not that likely that you will get in accident. But just because some one did something to secure the car does not mean it was safe, you can generate some huge forces in an accident, many times the weight of the car.

i just used a transporter.. i have no time at all and it was 800-1000 bux from socal to indiana!!!

insured and i had a large box of parts and a kit inside!!



*most shippers require 1/4 tank of gas, nothing inside and you gotta drop the car to a pick up location and pick it up at a pick up location unless you pay hella money to get them to drop it to your house...

I did the same with my first 86. The seller was cool enough to get the car ready, then $400 and some days later, it was dropped off at the super market a mile from my house. not too bad if you can't go get it your self


I think the small van/car dolly combo would be best tho. Or even a POD unit. I know some one that moved from Georgia to AZ and brought everything including his Locust (Lotus 7) in the pod unit.
