PostSubject: what is consider a true trueno?   Mon May 16, 2011 11:07 am

earlier this morning my friend came over and saw my AE86 87 coupe parked on my drive way and he asked me why on earth did I buy a levin. And I told him that my AE86 87 coupe is not a levin - it is a trueno. Now he and I are having this dispute. My friend says that a true trueno is an AE86 hatchback, but I told him that any corolla that is RWD and has the AE86 attach to it is a trueno just like my 87 coupe. He keeps saying that mine is a levin and I keep telling him that a levin is made on diffrent models and diffrent years. So who is right and who is wrong? I think my friend been watching too many Initial D movies.

Your both wrong. Your IP address says that you are in Minnesota, all Corollas in the US are, well, Corollas. Not Sprinters, Levins, Truenos or anything else. I suppose that you are trying to get a rise out of us with this question?

you're wrong! I'm not trying to making anything arise out of this. I just want you guys to help clearify this up that's all. And yes I am from wisconsin - I'm using a fake proxy server that's why you think I'm from minnesota. But yeah amidst from all the civics and integras here in wisconsin that's running amok everyday I am proud to drive something diffrent from the rest of the crowd. I acutally traded my pretty beat up 90 300z for the 87 coupe that I know own.

Loooong story short, here in the states if your hatchback OR coupe has:
1) RWD
2) pop-up headlights
3) chasis code designated AE86

You have a Trueno version of the Corolla, which I beleive is the only version of the Corolla with those criteria sold by a dealer in the states.

Levin is used for the same car but with fixed headlights, which if I'm not mistaken was never offered in the states. Most often this is the version you'd see populating a European forum. Japan had both versions with varying options attached to each.

The only reason you'd need to know the difference is when ordering front-end bodyparts like bumpers and headlights and such, espescially from an overseas vendor.

Alright so now that we have established what non-US model AE86 is most similar to the US model AE86, this thread is locked. If you want to have this kind of discussion you should go to Club4AG, or anywhere but here.
