PostSubject: 4AC powered car great for "noob" enthusiasts   Fri May 13, 2011 7:27 am

I'm not saying that in a bad sense or anything. But I think these cars are great "starter" cars for those who are into working on their own cars. They are simple, cheap to buy, usually cheap to fix, and very abundant. With a factory service manual, or Haynes/Chilton equivalent, one could rebuild the car from the ground up. They are decently fun to drive and "teach" you basic automotive knowledge. Owners can learn how to pack bearings, set valve clearance, and other routine maintenance. For those with a more solid understanding of the automobile, we can test theories and put them to use. Large companies aren't contracting any sort of research for performance parts. THIS forum might just be the front line of the futre for the 4AC engine. I have been on various global Tercel forums throughout the years. They don't have any decent info and tech for these engines. Yes they show Weber installs, but no where close to the 2 threads started my NP75 in the Fuel / Inlet System section. Various of other members have shared information, ideas, and theories for this engine. It's been mentioned before that a good majority of AE86 owners are realizing that their SR5s don't just have a "boat anchor" for an engine. I am VERY glad and honored to be apart of this community. Thank you all who are active here and put forth effort to what a good amount of people consider a "waste of time". We know it's not.

Ask yourself this question and be honest. Where would you and your car/engine be if this community didn't exist?

Personally, I would have looked into a 4AGE swap into my Corollas. It's the threads and info posted here that game me the correct info, knowledge, and more importantly the courage to go forth to buying a $300 carb kit. It's YOU who helped me when I had problems with my cars. It's YOU who make me PROUD to be an owher of a car with a 4AC. I honestly told people a few years ago that I can't wait to do a "GTS" swap in my AE86. Now I try, pretty hard, to convince people to not give up hope with their SR5s. They had no idea that you can buy a custom ground cam for $150+ shipping! They didn't know you can put a Weber carb on the engine with out any real modification. That HKS and other companies made DCOE carb manifolds for this engine. That BRD racing at one point made headers for the RWD versions. That you can easily, and inexpensively install a pretty dam nice ignition system without spending $500. I have 4 local (Las Vegas) friends that are happy to have a 4AC under the hood. I don't want to sound like I'm bragging, but I feel proud that I hjave made my mark on trhe local corolla "scene" when it comes to engines. I'm always happy to pop my hood at every and all car meets and educate people on the potential of this engine.

I see aa member who has an online store selling stickers and such for 4ACs. One member did an extensive build, and few others have 7AFE blocks under these heads. It's a MAJOR difference compared to the views of the 4AC back in 2001 when my interest in Corollas started.

Please excuse typos and such. drunken

PostSubject: AUTOMATIC COUPE   Sun May 15, 2011 6:35 pm

I PRETTY MUCH AGREE WITH WHAT YOU'RE SAYING. ALOT OF PEOPLE UNDERESTIMATE THE 4-AC ENGINE. MY QUESTION TO YOU IS I HAVE AN AE86 87 COUPE THAT'S AN AUTOMATIC AND CAN I DO ANYTHING TO IT TO MAKE IT RUN MORE POWERFUL AND EFFECTIVE? WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR MY FIRST IDEA WAS TO HAVE IT REPAINTED AND PUT A BODY KIT ON IT AND PUT SOME COOL LOOKING RIMS ON IT, BUT AFTER MUCH THOUGHT I CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT ALL THAT COSMETIC STUFF CAN COME 2ND.

Most people couldnt touge or drift any hi powered vehicle but the ae86 is a awesomely balanced car for it. Its better for drift in wet weather but they are great grippers in the dry.
