| Living in California, I'm surprised you've never seen one of these before. The amount of work people do to hide that their car is modified to pass visual and weight inspections out there blows my mind. And lets face it, what isn't "known to the state of California to cause cancer?" | |

| I know everyone loves to bash California, but having a cat is actually federal law so it applies it everywhere even if it's not generally enforced where you live. | |

| If the "feds" actually cared about smog and pollution in general, SUV's and whatnot wouldn't even be allowed on the road. Instead, Japan has an easier time importing a 2.4L non-turbo engine instead of a 2.0L turbo(240SX).
It's not the amount of pollution your car puts out that the feds care about, it's the amount compared to engine size they care about. I'm driving a 1.6L econobox. Do you really think it puts out more pollution per mile than a Porsche Cayenne Turbo?
Please, don't try to guilt-trip me, you're only going to plant my feet firmer. The laws are a joke.

| I'm rather happy for the emissions laws.. Sure, I think California's Emissions laws are alittle retarded... but who here remembers what the sky looked like in the mid-eighties? I sure do. The air here in NORCAL is alot clearer now because of the stringent emissions laws for cars.
which as a side note.. I aint got no room to talk because I run oil burner steam engines as a profession... talk about carbon footprint!

Not sure where this is coming from, no one is trying to convince you either way about smog laws.

Maybe 1 in 50 people modify their cars and maybe half of them modify them to the point where they'd fail the sniffer. Those few people are not what caused the smog in your area or any area. The benefits you see are from the rest of the ULEV's. Having to get your car weighed to pass inspection is a joke. It's all about the money and nothing else.

There are roughly the same amount of people in the Greater Los Angeles Area as the WHOLE state of New York. There is in fact more people in California then the ENTIRE NATION of Canada.
