I have a 1983 Corolla (with a 4AC) with a 32/36 DGV. I finally got it to idle nicely (with a little bit of shaking) and the mixture right. It starts right up and idles. If I slowly depress the gas pedal, it will rev nicely. But when I blip the throttle or depress the gas pedal 100% (wot) it hesitates. Like it wants to stall. The engine sounds like it stops for a second it's that bad. But only for a split second, then it revs. I have only cleaned the main jet.

I have an adjustable fuel pressure ...

Right now I'm idling about 1100-1000rpm, is this the ideal idle speed? Shouldn't the 4AC idle @ 850RPM? The car runs great, however fuel economy isn't so great. I read somewhere that my idle speed circuit is responsible for low RPM range-so tuning the idle circuit should yield me better fuel economy. My question is that I want better fuel economy, so should I lower my idle speed or should I lower my air/fuel mixture thanks. I drive very economically, with low rpm shifts, so I should be running ...

I'm not sure if this is a tunability error, but it seems that when I floor the accelerator pedal, it has as much effect as putting the throttle half way. The car still accelerates none-the-less, could this be that the Weber is adding much more fuel than the restrictive stock carb? Or am I doing something wrong, the throttle cable seems to be installed properly, the linkage nut is a bit loose, but none-the-less it seems to pull all the way, when I floor the pedal. Any input would be appreiated, ...

Just some ideas incase someone wants to tinker around with the intake.

I know for sure I'm going to do something similer and have a air duct under the front bumper lol

The open filters I see people do seems like a waste I just imagin sucking hot air into the intake coming from everywhere under the hood

Hey guys, I help deciding on a new cam. With a Weber recently installed, the engine revv's a lot more freely now, but I feel that the cam is the next restriction, robbing me of performance. My engine has 132k miles on it, i've talked to 4ac_ftw about getting a 280 cam because a high revving 4AC sounds like a sweet deal. But when I talked to my mechanic about it, he just recommends that I get a street cam because my engine wouldn't be able to take that big of a cam w/o a rebuild.

It's my understanding that the throttle positioner prevents the throttle from completely closing when the driver lifts of the gas pedal. This is done to reduce emissions.

Additionally, the factory carb has a port below the throttle plate which is linked to the retard chamber of the dual diaphragm distributor. When the driver lifts off the throttle, a vacuum is created which retards the timing in order to "compensate" for the lack of engine braking created by the throttle not closing ...

ANY MOTOR CAN BE FAST. IF IT'S BUILT CORRECTLY

This is a montra I've heard over and over again. And, It didn't matter what engine you were building. If you built it right, it could turn big numbers. And there is no arguing numbers.

This is a build I've been working on now for over a year. This build will have multiple stages. As the building and testing continues I will post pics and video to back up my claims. This write up covers STAGE 1.

Hi guys, i have a stock 4ac that's troubling me. once in a blue moon, when i accelerate at 2k+rpm it will stumble for a split second the car jerks back a bit and then keeps it goes back to normal. annoying as hell and really embarassing when the ladies ride in the pimpmobile with me.

i have replaced the fuel filter, air filter, AAP diaphragm, ignition coil, igniter, rotor, spark plugs, wires.... i'll try replacing the distributor cap right now.

if that doesn't work then it's for sure ...

I've been trying to understand the vacuum advance on the distributor and have some questions.

The distributor is a dual diaphragm one with 3 vacuum tubes attached to it. The bottom one goes to the High Altitude Compensation (HAC) which advances the timing at high altitudes for improved driveability. The second one goes through a check valve and then to the intake manifold for a manifold vacuum source. This advances the timing when the car is at idle; it's the one you have to disconnect ...

Hey guys, I just bought a Weber 38/38 kit for my 4AC is there anything I should be looking out for? The reason I bought the 38/38 instead of the 32/36 is because I just want all out power, fuel economy isn't important to me as the car will not be a daily, but rather a track car.

My car also lags a bit before hitting the 3000 RPM range, could this be the carb at fault? Will the Weber solve that issue, or could it be from the larger exhaust piping, in which cases I would be better off getting ...

On one occassion after replacing my radiator, the lower radiatior hose wasn't fitted on, so it came off the freeway. I recently removed the egr equipment on the manifold and folded over the exhaust pipe (the tubes bolt is rusted into the manifold and was just stripping itself when I put pressure on it). Basically after I get it running and heated up it has a tendency to die when coasting and braking to a stop (fairly hard) and it also runs up to a very high rpm (3K rpm) ...
